Q: What causes wrinkles?

Q: What causes wrinkles? A: When deeper layers of collagen collapse, wrinkles form on the skin’s surface.

When your skin is young it naturally contains a lot of collagen. Collagen is a chemical produced naturally by our bodies. It functions to maintain our skin, keeping it healthy and resilient. However, along with the body’s natural aging process and contributed to by other factors such as exposure to the sun and pollution, unstable oxygen molecules are developed that damage sensitive skin cells. Over time this will all come to a fold (no pun intended) and break down the amount of collagen in our skin. Therefore, the skin molecules that had been so resilient become rigid and brittle.
